Chapter 20

How Dare Who?

You don't have to live in someone else's storm.

How dare who? With question marks. What's going on?

I've had people say, "How dare he?" And "How dare she?" And I'm standing there, thinking: who? With question marks. What's going on?

They're so emotionally involved in it that it became a tormental moment for them to live in. And they keep living in it. Because they accept it.

They accept the story someone else told. They accept the anger, the gossip, the version of events that wasn't theirs. They let it become their reality.

I never accepted those stories. Not the ones about me. Not the ones about others. I knew that behind every "how dare she" was someone who wasn't there, or someone who didn't bother to ask.

You don't have to live in someone else's storm. You can walk away from it.

You can leave it with the people who need it.
